End-market demand for IT products such as LCD monitors remained robust during the 618 shopping festival in China as figures from research firm AVC Revo show LCD monitor sales in China totaled 640,000 units during the event, up 14% on year.
The sales value during the period was CNY750 million (US$106.79 million) with ASP reaching CNY1,169, down CNY128 from a year ago.
The top-3 LCD monitor brands during 618 were AOC, Philips and Dell. AOC enjoyed an on-year sales growth of 13% to stay at the top, followed by Philips in second place. Dell managed to climb to third place with a 9% on-year growth by adjusting its product mix and releasing more price-friendly models to stimulate demand from the consumer sector.
Xiaomi, Asustek Computer and Amoi made it to the top-10 while LG Electronics, ViewSonic and Lenovo dropped out.
During the festival, gaming monitor sales were 198,000 units, up 62% on year and this was the first time gaming monitors had stronger sales performance than curved products. AOC's AGON series gaming monitors, Philips' 242M8 and Asustek's VG27AQE all had strong contribution to the gaming monitor sales.
Sales of curved monitors slipped 15% on year to arrive at only 166,000 units during the festival with AOC's related products plunging 26% on year and those from Samsung Electronics slumping 55%.
Sales of high definition LCD monitors went up 16% on year to arrive at 217,000 units, with Quad HD models having strong demand than Ultra HD ones, as Quad HD monitors' ASP was CNY178 lower than that for the same period a year ago. Ultra HD monitors did not see much of a drop in pricing.
Sales of notebooks reached 1.09 million units during the event, up 17% from those in 2019's Singles Day. Lenovo with its ThinkPad series products and Huawei with its Honor series enjoyed surging sales during the period and were the top-2 brands of the shopping festival with extended gaps with competitors such as Asustek, Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP).
Because of demand from users working and studying from home, IT panel shipments in the first half remained in high gear, but monitor panel shipments are expected to start slowing down in the third quarter.
As a few brands are looking to expand their shares in the market by release 21.5-and 23.8-inch monitors, AVC Revo expects prices of smaller-size monitor panels to grow slightly in July, while those of medium- to large-size ones will stay flat.
Orders for notebook panels remain brisk at the moment as demand for notebooks from Europe is rising with the pandemic easing in the region. Notebook brands are optimistic about demand in the third quarter and have been increasing their channel inventory.
Prices for some notebook panels such as 11.6-inch TN panels, 14-inch TN panels and 15.6-inch IPS panels may pick up US$0.1-0.2 in July.
