Acer has landed a nearly US$200 million tablet order from the state of Uttar Pradesh in India, underscoring the company's growing public-sector business in one of its fastest-expanding markets. Acer Pan-Asia Pacific operations president Andrew Hou said India revenue exceeded US$700 million in 2025 and could top US$800 million in 2026 as the company moves closer to a US$1 billion revenue target.
India becomes a larger growth engine
Hou disclosed the order in an interview following Acer's next@acer global press conference at the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany. He said India has significant potential, adding that disciplined execution should translate into strong growth returns.
Acer India revenue reached another record in the second quarter of 2026, while first-half growth climbed 48%, Hou said. He also noted that the local PC market is under pressure from rising memory costs, which is altering the usual seasonal pattern for the second half of the year.
Traditionally, PC industry revenue has been split about 40% in the first half and 60% in the second half. Hou said that mix is likely to reverse this year, with the first half accounting for about 60% and the second half about 40%, reflecting weaker demand later in the year. Even so, he said Acer's Asia-Pacific business could still post stronger second-half revenue than the first half, helped by events such as Acer Day and Predator League.
Hou said Acer's Asia-Pacific region generated about US$2 billion in first-half revenue, up 17% year-over-year. India, South Korea, and Malaysia were the three fastest-growing markets in the region during the period. India grew by nearly 50%, South Korea rose by 41%, and Malaysia increased by 22%, he said.
Public-sector recovery and education push support the region
Hou said Acer's key Asia-Pacific markets — Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines — were affected in 2025 by political instability, which delayed public-sector tenders. That pushed the commercial share of the regional business down to 37% in 2025. As bidding activity normalized in 2026, the commercial share recovered to 46%, giving the regional business a more balanced mix of support.
Acer has also spent the past two years expanding its education business through regional summits. Excluding Japan and China, the company said it ranks No. 1 in the Asia-Pacific education PC market with a 31% share, including leading positions in India, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia.
The company held education summits in Bangkok in 2025 and Jakarta in 2026, drawing local government education officials, school principals, and system integrators. Acer plans to continue the program in 2027 to deepen its position in the education market across the region.
Beyond commercial and education channels, Acer has continued to use consumer events to support demand. Acer Day, which has run for 10 years, has evolved from a brand campaign into a larger consumer event that now includes carnivals, concerts, and sports activities, such as road races in Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
India and South Korea were the standout markets in the first half, Hou said. In India, shipments of servers from the subsidiary Altos Computing and home appliances from Acerpure both rose severalfold, alongside the core PC business. Acer also recently signed Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, often described as India's "Tom Cruise," to a three-year ambassadorial deal aimed at strengthening the brand.
Acer's South Korea business has also recovered from a trough in 2022, Hou said. While Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics dominate the market with a combined share of 70%, neither company has a dedicated gaming-notebook lineup, giving Acer room to compete. Hou added that new products, including routers and artificial intelligence servers, have also delivered strong sales.
