Hynix Semiconductor and Seti have recently snatched CMOS image sensor (CIS) orders for most of Hewlett-Packard's (HP's) low-priced notebooks from OmniVision, by offering lower prices, according to industry sources. OmniVision has also adopted a flexible pricing strategy, hoping to take back the lost orders, the sources added.
Asustek Computer also chose Samsung Electronics' low-priced CIS products instead of OminiVision's for its Eee PCs; however, it has turned back to using OminiVision's products due to short supply, indicated the sources.
If OmniVision can offer the same or even lower prices on its VGA level products, it will regain its share from Hynix and Seti in the notebook market, the sources expect.
