Conexant stands out in audio market with comprehensive solutions
Conexant has made significant progress in the audio market over the past year. With its unique technologies and growing ecosystem, the company is well-positioned to expand its leadership in the notebook and tablet markets to include a wider range of segments such as smart home, IoT, automotive, headsets and docking stations."We can help customers solve real problems," noted Saleel Awsare, Conexant vice president and general manager, when asked to explain the key factor that has contributed to the company's recent success in the audio market.Voice and speech communications play a critical role in people's personal and professional lives, and there is a rapidly growing need for increased collaboration through Skype, Lync or conference calls. However, in reality, the background noises and echoes that occur during these calls (in offices, airports, homes, busy cafes) can be significant - and can effectively shut down communication and ruin collaboration. From background noise that makes these calls unintelligible to a microphone that doesn't clearly pick up what the user is saying, voice communications over the Internet have been far from ideal.Conexant's AudioSmart 2.0 silicon and software solutions address this issue by improving the audio experience in noisy, real-world conditions. Features such as advanced, proprietary noise suppression and acoustic echo cancellation technology enable a more natural collaboration experience with crystal clear audio and no background noise – on any PC or mobile device application."Simply put, our complete range of AudioSmart solutions delivers better sound," said Awsare. "From a truly immersive gaming experience, to a clear, lifelike Skype call – our software radically improves the quality of voice and audio performance, and is tightly coupled with our next generation CODEC and amplifier products for an innovative, comprehensive solution.""Expanded presence in Greater ChinaDespite the fierce competition in the audio market, Conexant is a key player in this field. Awsare stressed that what sets Conexant apart from competitors is that it's the only company in the market that has built a complete end-to-end solution that includes hardware CODECs, smart amplifiers, input processors, output processors, and software. This unique competitiveness has enabled Conexant to acquire several design wins in the past year. "In order to enable our AudioSmart voice and speech processing software to work with any hardware CODEC, we announced our stand-alone AudioSmart software for PCs and tablets at Computex last year," Awsare noted. "Since that time, four of the top five PC OEMs have adopted our solutions.""In addition, our AudioSmart technology has been adopted by major TV makers, including LG, Samsung, and Panasonic, to develop the voice interface for smart TVs and set-top-boxes," Awsare added. "It is also being used in some automotive applications in Japan. The last 12 months have been really exciting for us. We have achieved tremendous growth."Considering Greater China's increasingly important role in the world's economy, Conexant has decided to further expand its presence in this region. "Due to an increasing customer base and continued growth, we will open up a test chamber in Taipei in June of this year," Awsare said. "Our focus will be on providing audio test services to customers in Greater China.""Meanwhile, because the staff in Taipei has increased to 50 people, Conexant Taipei will move to a new office later this year.As for the China market, Conexant has partnered with some local companies to further penetrate the smart home and automotive markets. At the CITE2015 (China Information Technology Expo) just held in April, Conexant's customers including IFlytek, Unisound, LeTV, etc. were in attendance to demonstrate their related solutions. For example, Unisound used Conexant's processor to develop its FVM module for home voice controller and IVM module for educational robot. Other products included Aispeech's SmallZhi WiFi speaker, and IFlytek's 2MIC array for automotive applications.Strong ecosystem partnerships"We put a lot of effort into establishing a comprehensive ecosystem with partners across different market segments," Awsare stressed.Awsare explained that AudioSmart software provides clear voice quality, eliminates noise from the microphone input signal, and therefore can dramatically improve automatic speech recognition (ASR) system performance, which is vital to the emerging applications such as voice command and speech recognition."Technologies that make use of speech recognition, such as always-on voice engines, can benefit from the crystal clear audio facilitated by AudioSmart," noted Awsare. "The result is a superior audio experience for the end user, with excellent listening performance and voice quality in noisy, real-world conditions.""I am fully confident that our AudioSmart technology will be very useful in a variety of markets, including automotive, computing and consumer electronics," Awsare added. "By teaming up with partners, we have seen the great potential of expanding our comprehensive audio solutions to a wider range of voice and speech applications."Conexant now has strong relationships with software vendors such as Nuance, iFlytek, Agnitio, Google, Microsoft, Dolby, Waves, and DTS, as well as microphone and speaker vendors like FG, AAC, Zylux, Horn, Knowles, and Akustica.Conexant also works with major SoC and DSP core vendors including Intel, AMD, and Cadence. The company just announced that its AudioSmart software has been ported to Cadence's Tensilica HiFi DSP architecture, the most popular audio IP core architecture.Announcement at ComputexContinuing its growth momentum, Conexant will again unveil an important new product at this year's Computex. The company will announce the addition of a new, ultra-low power, high-performance HD Audio CODEC to their AudioSmart 2.0 product line. The CX8200 is a single-chip solution optimized for use on any platform with an integrated speaker. Conexant's CX8200 features a fully-integrated Class-D smart amplifier that, when combined with the company's innovative software, delivers flawless speech recognition, natural voice collaboration, and audio output that is several times louder using existing speakers. It uses a proprietary "SoftAware" link to interconnect amplifier hardware sensors with software algorithms. The dataflow between hardware sensors and software enables dynamic updates to the algorithms performing speaker control and Acoustic Echo Cancellation functions, which radically improves overall system performance. With AudioSmart inside, users can hear what others are saying, speak naturally and listen to multimedia content at higher volume levels. AudioSmart technology enables the use of Automatic Speech Recognition for dictation, virtual assistant applications (such as Cortana and Hello Google) and much more.At Computex, Conexant's high fidelity voice and audio processing solutions will be on display for Windows/Android notebooks, tablets, all-in-one PCs, headsets, USB docking solutions, voice interactive smart home/speaker applications, Smart TVs, and set-top boxes.Computex Taipei attendees are encouraged to stop by Conexant's suite #1022-10F at the Grand Hyatt Taipei during the show to view a demo and see the new audio CODEC features in action.Saleel Awsare, Conexant vice president and general managerPhoto: CompanyConexant's AudioSmart technology delivers a superior audio experience for end usersPhoto: Company

Gamers are everywhere and NVIDIA is there to enable them
In the lead-up to Computex Taipei this year, one of the hottest discussion topics has been trying to guess what graphics market leader NVIDIA has in store for PC gamers at the show. This is not simply idle media speculation about what used to be a niche market but an important question for a gaming industry that has found itself all grown up and now affects millions of users. With about 360 million active PC core gamers worldwide, the gaming market has become just as much part of pop culture as movies and music. Gamers are everywhere. In terms of revenues, gaming represented about US$64 billion in household spending in 2014. In comparison, worldwide box office totals were US$40 billion and global music revenues were about US$20 billion. PC gaming represents about a 40% chunk of the gaming market and is on track to reach US$29 billion in software revenues in 2015.And perhaps no other company has a greater influence on PC gaming than NVIDIA. Because while it may be the developers who see to it that the market has great and fun games, players still want to be amazed, so production value matters a great deal. NVIDIA is the place the market turns to when it comes to enabling those special effects.GTX 980 Ti is on the Computex agenda!NVIDIA understands its role in the market and that ultimately it all comes down to delivering more horsepower, because more horsepower means more special effects. According to Tom Petersen, Distinguished Engineer at NVIDIA, the company is constantly pushing the limits of its technology in order to release even better GPUs. Last year, NVIDIA announced Maxwell, its latest generation GPU architecture that delivers unmatched performance, twice the energy efficiency of the previous generation, and major new graphics capabilities including the latest DirectX 12 (DX12) advancements. Maxwell also increased GPUs efficiency in terms of performance per watt by a factor of two.The first Maxwell GPUs, the GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970, were followed up earlier this year with the release of the NVIDIA TITAN X, giving the company claim to the fastest GPU in the market. TITAN X, based on Maxwell and the new GM200 graphics processor, boasted a 50% increase in CUDA cores, memory bandwidth and render output units (or ROPs) and doubled the performance and power efficiency of its predecessor by combining 3,072 processing cores for 7 teraflops of peak single-precision performance with 12GB of onboard memory. Now with Computex set to begin, there has been strong anticipation and excitement for the event, as it will serve as the launching pad for the GTX980 Ti graphics card, a more mainstream version of the GM200 solution, and also based on Maxwell architecture.Demand for Maxwell has been strong, with NVIDIA reporting that its first quarter gaming revenues were up 25% year over year. Moving into the second half of the year the gaming market is expected to see multiple growth drivers beyond new and exciting game titles that will help continue to drive PC gaming demand and that is why the market was hoping the GTX980 Ti would be available as early as possible. Pricing for 4K monitors has been dropping and products are becoming much more affordable, with the related monitors requiring enhanced graphics performance to deliver the full 4k experience. Windows 10 with DirectX 12 is also launching in the second half of the year. And virtual reality (VR) is set to hit the market. With the launch of GTX980 Ti, gamers will be able to take full advantage of the latest market developments in the second half of the year.Virtual reality is becoming realThere is a lot of enthusiasm in the industry for VR, with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang recently noting that this is not surprising considering that anybody who has tried VR is generally blown away by it. While VR is expected to launch later this year on multiple platforms, users will require 90 frames per second in stereo to fully appreciate the experience. Few graphics cards on the market can deliver the full VR experience, so demand for the GTX 980 Ti is also expected to be strong in this area.Understanding that VR is the future of gaming, NVIDIA has invested quite heavily to make sure virtual reality delivers a great experience. NVIDIA's GameWorks VR SDK incorporates a number of new features to increase performance, lower latency and increase compatibility for VR headsets. For example, VR SLI tunes the way multiple GPUs work together when they're paired to drive virtual reality experiences; context priority helps cut discontinuities between head movement and action on screen; and Multi-res Scaling (MRS) is an innovative new rendering technique to accelerate performance in VR games. Commenting on the VR headset market, Petersen pointed out that based on NVIDIA's focus on enabling the technology, it is not surprising that leading players in the VR space - companies such as Oculus, Valve and Epic - are all partnering with NVIDIA.G-SYNC goes mobile at ComputexPetersen is quick to point out though that VR is only one market segment for gaming and that the goal of NVIDIA is to enable as many different exciting use cases, on as many different platforms as possible. This is why the popular G-SYNC technology from NVIDIA will be taking a front seat at Computex as well, with NVIDIA announcing that it is extending the technology to notebooks. The issue that G-SYNC resolves is that while monitors refresh at fixed rates, graphics cards render images at frame rates that will vary dramatically, even within a single scene of a single game. G-SYNC synchronizes the display refresh rates to the graphics card (GPU), eliminating screen tearing and minimizes display stutter and input lag to deliver what Petersen call a silky smooth gaming experience and enabling completely immersive game play, one where every frame matters. The technology has been extremely popular with gamers using desktop monitors but with the introduction of the Maxwell-based GeForce GTX 970M and GeForce GTX 980M notebook GPUs late last year, an increasing number of gamers are now using notebooks, as the performance delivered is about 80% of the desktop equivalent and resolution support is well beyond 1080p. Moreover, with features like Maxwell's Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) technology, games can be rendered at 4K and then scaled down to the native resolution on the notebook's display. The results are an image that is much higher quality than one rendering directly to 1080p. With so many games choosing to go mobile, it will follow that NVIDIA extend G-SYNC to notebooks. NVIDIA and its partners will all be highlighting the latest G-SYNC monitors and notebooks at Computex this year, bringing added excitement to the event.SHIELD: Bringing NVIDIA into the living roomWhile enjoying video content used to be the sole realm of the living room TV, the viewing experience has slowly but steadily been redefined, with smartphones and tablets increasingly being used to watch video content from services like Netflix, YouTube and Twitch. However, nothing can replace the TV when it comes to comfort and enjoyment in the relaxing atmosphere of the home living room. Now with the recent launch of the NVIDIA SHIELD, home users will not only be able to access this video content from the comfort of their living rooms, they will also be able to use the TV to take advantage and enjoy all the same music, apps and amazing games that they access on their other Android devices.NVIDIA SHIELD is the world's first Android TV console, and it was designed to give users control of their digital entertainment at home. Video and television content can be watched at 4k or HD by using services and apps such as Netflix 4K Ultra HD, Sling TV, Google's Live Channels, as well as by using TV apps from major broadcasters such as HBO, CBS Sports, Fox News and more. Moreover, NVIDIA SHIELD transforms the user experience from just watching TV to playing TV, as the platform makes a new class of Android games possible. There are over 200 games on Android TV, and almost 20 titles are coming only to SHIELD.More than 50 titles have already been optimized for SHIELD and NVIDIA has stated that various AAA titles, including console games, can be streamed using the GRID on-demand game-streaming service. Big Sun uses advanced solar tracker system to solve electricity shortage problems
Our everyday life follows the sun's routine; so does our electricity use. But due to the limitations of the traditional electricity generation technologies, the grid cannot adjust immediately to changes in various applications. If we can introduce stable renewable energy generation technology to make up for the shortcomings of the grid, we can effectively solve the problem of electricity shortage. Hence, advanced solar trackers are one of the most important developments for solar power generation.Summer Lo, chairman of Big Sun, proposed "Solar Power Generation and Electricity Supply Related Report" (reference 1). A solar tracker is a system that automatically tracks the position of the sun. In contrast to fixed systems, the solar tracker can effectively maximize the efficiency of solar power generation by pointing the PV modules to the sun at the best angle when there is sunlight.Traditional trackers are single-axis systems with the axis of rotation and the motor both located on the center axis, which makes it hard to maintain, repair, control and install. Hence many power generation stations rather use fixed models and some even lock the single-axis solar tracker to make it a fixed system.iPV Solar Tracker with universal axis is highly stable and can accommodate different kinds of harsh environment.According to Lo, "The entire structure of iPV Solar Tracker with universal axis is lighter compared with single axis systems and the module structure allows easier access for repair. The universal axis solar tracker can horizontally track the sun's position at sunrise and sunset and vertically track the sun's angle. This allows the solar panels to point to the sun at the best angle and achieve maximum power generation efficiency."Lo further explained Big Sun's iPV Solar Tracker with universal axis operates on a principle of balance using steel cables to control the angles of the solar panels. Compared with the single-axis systems that require powerful motors to make movements, the universal (dual) axis systems can save more energy yet offer higher accuracy in controlling the panels. The overall stability of the system can reach more than 99.9% compared to other universal axis systems in the market.Furthermore, the best location to set up a solar power system is a place with ample sunlight. But usually these locations have harsh weather conditions. For example, locations at high latitudes face snow pile-up while those at low latitudes usually see heavy rains or desert storms. However, iPV Solar Tracker with universal axis not only can track the angle of the sunlight but also adjust according to the local weather. For example, in places at higher latitudes, the system can automatically be set at a certain angle to prevent snow piling up. At the same time, it can be set to turn at regular intervals to clear off the snow on the ground to avoid obstruction to the system's operations. During rainstorms, the panels can be immediately tilted to prevent rainwater from accumulating into heavy pools that could damage the system. In desert areas where desert storms appear frequently, the solar panels can be adjusted to face the wind sideways to prevent the sands from scratching the panel surface.Remote monitoring system allows easier managementiPV Solar Tracker with universal axis has a feature that brings conveniences to the monitoring team, namely the website interface monitoring system. Lo demonstrated using a tablet how the monitoring team could manage the solar systems in Europe through the Internet. The monitoring system can also show the health of each piece of the equipment. Because most large-size projects are located in remote and sparsely populated areas, the automatic detecting and reporting features of the monitoring system allow the maintenance team to receive immediate alerts to problems and fix them.iPV Solar Tracker with universal (dual) axis is far superior in power generation when the sunlight conditions fluctuate.

Computex 2015: Nvidia unveils GTX 980 Ti and G-Sync technology
Nvidia has unveiled the latest addition to its GTX family, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, featuring the company's latest Maxwell-architecture and has three times the performance of its GTX 680.The new graphics card features 6GB of memory and CUDA cores to drive games at Ultra HD quality. It also features support for Microsoft's next-generation DirectX 12 graphics application programming interface. In addition, Nvidia also announced G-Sync, its new display technology that delivers smooth, tear-free gaming.Gigabyte will have two models available with G-Sync, the Aorus X7 Pro-Sync and X5. The Aorus X7 features GTX 970M SLI and Aorus X5 GTX 965M SLI. Meanwhile, MSI will also showcase several Nvidia-based gaming notebooks such as the GT72 G, a 17.3-inch notebook. The GT72 will be available with GTX 980M or GTX 970M GPUs.G-Sync works by synchronizing consumers' monitor refresh rate to the output from Nvidia GeForce GPUs. Sometimes called variable refresh rate, this fixes the challenge of stutter and tearing that the gaming market has been experiencing.Nvidia also announced a new software development kit, GameWorks VR, to help virtual reality (VR) headset and game developers build innovations for GeForce GPUs.An alpha version of the GameWorks VR SDK is already distributed to VR industry players such as CCP Games, Epic Games, HTC, Oculus, and Valve.Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti graphics cardPhoto: Company
