LCD display maker TPV Technology has begun construction of a technology park on Pingtan Island located in eastern coastal Fujian province, China. TPV alone will invest US$60 million initially to build facilities at the park slated for production in 2013.

The park, which is being developed by TPV and tentatively named Taiwan Technology Park, aims to attract investments from Taiwan-based companies in high-tech, energy, logistics, biotech, and other industries.

While TPV is to bring its supply chain for the production of LCD TVs and monitors into the park, other Taiwan-based companies, including Evertop-Optoelectronics, Taiwan Nanotechnology, Kuan Mao Logistics and RESI Resource Engineering Services, will also contribute equity investments in the park, according to TPV.

TPV expects its total production in the new base to reach CNY4 billion (US$631.4 million) a year.
