LCD panel maker AU Optronics (AUO) has increased its estimate for the all-in-one PC penetration rate in the global desktop PC market to 9% for 2010 and 12% for 2011, according to market sources. AUO's original forecast was 7% in 2010 and 9% in 2011.
The sources estimate that Windows 7 will help to drive all-in-one PC shipments to 3.5 million units in 2009, while LCD monitor shipments are estimated to drop to 156 million units in 2009 from 167 million units in 2008.
With larger-size monitors becoming more popular, full HD will become the trend for monitors larger than 21.5-inch amid surging demand for high quality display and continue dropping monitor prices, said AUO, adding that the penetration rate of 16:9 aspect ratio in desktop PC monitors will grow to 65% in 2009, and 70-80% in 2010.
