Coretronic expects its shipments of energy-saving products, mainly backlight units (BLU), to stay flat in April, as shortages of some critical components will undermine its efforts to ramp up shipments.

Sales of energy-saving products totaled NT$1.82 billion (US$63.7 million) for March, up 18% sequentially and 7% on year, thanks to robust demand from the TV, notebook and monitor sectors, according to company data.

Including shipments of image products and visual solutions, the company's March revenues came to NT$3.863 billion, up 35% on month and 21% on year.

For the first quarter of 2021, revenues totaled NT$10.023 billion, down 13% sequentially due to supply chain and logistics issues, but up 20% from a year earlier.

Its shipments of image devices and visual solutions were up 79% sequentially to NT$1.467 billion in March; and up 5% to NT$29.07 billion in the first quarter.

Due to a high base reached in March and some shipments likely to be delayed due to component shortages, its shipments of image and visual solutions are likely to decline in April, said the company.

However, overall shipments of image and visual products are expected to grow 20% sequentially in the second quarter, driven by the ongoing stay-at-home activities and a rebound in demand for engineering models, it added.
