Despite ongoing US sanctions that constrain its smartphone sales overseas, Huawei said it has held the No. 1 position in global wearable device shipments for two straight quarters.

Huawei said it has been competing in the smart wearables market for more than 12 years, positioning technology at the heart of its product development. By combining fashion, professional sports, and health features, the company said its devices address user needs across lifestyle, sports science, and health management. This approach, it added, has been key to its global leadership in wearables.

IDC data showed global wearable shipments hit 49.22 million units in the second quarter of 2025, up 12.3% from a year earlier. Smartwatches accounted for 38.27 million units and wristbands 10.95 million, with growth of 10.1% and 20.6% respectively. Huawei shipped 9.9 million units for a 20.2% share, an 11.7% increase from the same period in 2024. Xiaomi followed with 19.3%, Apple with 15%, Samsung Electronics with 6.5% and China's BBK Electronics with 6%.

China was the largest market for wearables in the second quarter, with shipments totaling 20.8 million units. Unlike global trends, demand in China leaned more heavily toward smartwatches, which reached 14.6 million units, compared with 6.21 million for wristbands.

Huawei said rising adoption of wearables is reshaping consumer expectations, with health management, fitness tracking, and lifestyle integration now core features. Devices are moving from basic functional tools to indispensable technology accessories.

The company added that it will launch new products on September 19 in Paris under the theme "Ride the Wind," including the Watch GT6 series, the Watch Ultimate 2, and the health-monitoring Watch D2.
