Taiwan market: Smart TV sales remain strong

Smart TVs as well as LCD TVs sized 50-inch and above are continuing to see strong sales in the Taiwan market, according to market observers.

TVs equipped with larger sizes and smart features have continued to be popular among Taiwan consumers since 2012 and into 2013. Despite a slowdown in TV sales during May and June 2013, the observers said they expect sales for the two kinds to continue growing in the second half of the year when Ultra HD TVs are released.

Despite the decline in small-size TV sales, units sized 32- and 42-inch remained the most popular in the Taiwan market during the first half of the year, the observers noted, adding that TV sales during the period reached 470,000 units, down from 480,000 units in the first half of 2012.

The observers added that in the first half of 2013, the penetration rate of LED backlit TVs reached 95% in the Taiwan market, and that CCFL, PDP TV and small-size TV units were all on the decline.
