Network IC design house Asix Electronics is expected to see its first-quarter revenues increase more than 20% sequentially, driven by a ramp-up in orders from the ultrabook sector, according to market sources.

Asix' recently-launched SuperSpeed USB-to-Ethernet controller IC reportedly has been adopted by several Taiwan-based brand-name PC vendors for their ultrabook lineups scheduled for 2012, the sources indicated.

Brisk orders for ultrabooks and other notebook devices will likely enable Asix to see sales buck the seasonal trend in the first quarter, the sources said. Asix is expected to report impressive revenue and profit growth for 2012.

Asix' solutions used to target games consoles, set-top boxes (STBs) and TV products. The move to launch the USB-to-Ethernet product line will enable the firm to expand its market reach, the sources noted.

Asix saw its revenues soar to almost NT$51 million (US$2 million) in January 2012, up about 48% from a year ago.
