AI network cameras and edge computing devices play crucial roles in driving smart road development.
Abstract

AI network cameras (IP cameras) and edge computing devices such as AI boxes will be important in smart road scenarios, according to DIGITIMES Research. These devices, with traits of low latency, can perform real-time AI image detection, classification, tracking, and other intelligent video analytics (IVA) tasks at the roadside edge.

These features enable them to adapt to rapidly changing traffic situations, serving as the operational foundation for innovative applications such as technology enforcement, collision warnings, traffic flow guidance, and signal control in smart road environments.

The development of smart roads can be divided into four stages: monitored roads, smart monitoring roads, smart networked roads, and vehicle-road collaborative self-driving roads. Currently, most regions and countries are in the monitored roads or smart monitoring roads stages, with a transition towards smart networked roads.
