Elan Microelectronics expects its monthly shipments of touchscreen controller ICs to reach five million units in the third quarter of 2013 from the current two million, buoyed by a pull-in of orders for new smartphones.

Elan indicated that the company has begun shipping touch controller ICs for Sony's Xperia C-series 5-inch smartphones, and also secured orders from several China-based smartphone brands. Fulfilling those new orders will help buoy its sales performance in the second half of 2013, the company said.

In addition, Elan with its touch controller ICs has entered the supply chain for new tablets and ultrabooks slated for release in the third quarter, according to industry sources. Elan reportedly started shipping touch controller ICs for Google's next Nexus 7 in May.

Elan saw its revenues hit a record high of NT$729 million (US$24.4 million) in May 2013. The company is expected to enjoy another record month in June, the sources said.
