Touchscreen controller IC vendor Elan Microelectronics has reported revenues of NT$728.6 million (US$24.38 million) for May, up 4.8% sequentially and 9.3% on year. For the first five months of 2013, revenues totaled NT$3.29 billion, increasing 18.9% from a year earlier.
Inventory build-ups by desktop and notebook makers for the traditional peak season in the third quarter combined with the release of Intel's Haswell CPUs have spurred demand for touchscreen controller chips, according to industry sources.
Most touch controller IC vendors are expected to register strong sequential sales gains in the third quarter due to increasing penetration of touch capabilities in new notebooks, ultrabooks and all-in-one (AIO) PCs as well as a low base set in the previous quarter, the sources noted.
