ViewSonic will launch 1080p 3D projectors in the Taiwan market by the end of 2013 at retail prices of about NT$32,900 (US$1,097) and expects the proportion of all projectors that are Full HD models to rise from 10-15% currently to 20%.

ViewSonic Asia Pacific region product marketing director Max Liu noted that currently average sales of projectors in the Taiwan market have been around 8,000 units per month and demand from the commercial market continues to surpass 50%.

In addition, prices of projects that support Full HD resolution have been high, said Liu. The average price of a projector that supports 1080p and 1,600 lumens has been around NT$40,000. The high price is the reason that sales are yet to increase significantly, said Liu.

According to market research firm, International Data Corporation (IDC), the first quarter is a traditional low season for projectors, and distributors have begun to clear out inventories since the fourth quarter of 2012. In addition, lacking support from government projects caused first-quarter 2013 projector demand in Taiwan to fall by 21% sequentially, at 19,500 units.
