Taiwan market: LCD TV sales in 2013 expected to fall 10-15% on year

An estimated 1.1 million LCD TVs will be sold in the Taiwan market in 2013, decreasing 10-15% from 2012 mainly because government subsidies for energy-saving models will end, according to local retail sources.

Additionally, TV sales are expected to be down 20-30% on quarter during the second quarter of the year.

However, revenues generated from TV sales in 2013 are expected to show similar results as in 2012 due to expected sales of larger-size units as well as Ultra HD units.

The sources also said that OLED TVs from Korea-based vendors may not appear in the Taiwan market until the end of 2013 or even later.
