Taiwan market: Sony to launch Bloggie Touch camcorder
Sony has unveiled its Bloggie Touch series camcorder, the MHS-TS20K, for launch in the Taiwan market on December 1 at a recommended retail price of NT$8,990 (US$293) including a free 360-degree panoramic lens adapter, according to Sony Taiwan. Mitsubishi Electric's new red laser diode for pico projectors offers industry-leading output power
Tokyo - (Business Wire) - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced today the launch of a 638-nanometer (nm) wavelength red laser diode (LD) offering an output power of 1W, the world's highest among 638nm band LDs. The ML501P73 diode is ideal for pico projectors and other portable display systems that require a high-brightness red light source. Sample shipments will begin on November 18, 2010.Pico projectors have drawn much attention because they can be embedded in or connected to mobile systems such as cellular phones and laptop computers. LDs are widely used as light sources for these projectors for their ability to project a wider range of colors compared to lamp-based projectors. LDs deliver higher output while consuming less power than light emitting diodes (LEDs), extending battery life. LDs also enable focus-free operation because optical systems with great depth of field can be used with laser beams.At high temperatures, the output power of red LDs with wavelengths shorter than 640 m was not sufficient for high brightness projector applications. Lantic releases GTX580, the fastest DirectX 11 card of NVIDIA

LG Display unveils lineup of cutting-edge displays at FPD International 2010

Corning expands line of EAGLE XG Slim LCD glass substrates
CORNING, N.Y., November 09, 2010 - Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced the commercial availability of EAGLE XG Slim glass substrates in larger generation sizes to support LCD panel manufacturing for larger applications like TV and large monitors. The announcement came at FPD International, a major industry trade show in Makuhari Messe, Japan. Initially intended to enable lighter-weight portable devices, the EAGLE XG Slim line debuted in June with glass sizes up to Generation 5 at 0.4 mm thick. Today's announcement adds 0.5 mm glass in Generations 7 and 8-the glass sizes that support television applications and large monitors. Until now, those generation sizes have traditionally been 0.7 mm thick. At the standard glass thickness of 0.7 mm, glass represents 10% to 25% of the module thickness for leading-edge slim TV designs. A migration to 0.5 mm will provide a tangible benefit in efforts to reduce the thickness of televisions. Moving forward, Corning plans to further expand the EAGLE XG Slim product line by developing 0.3 mm substrates for glass sizes that support portable electronic devices.
