In the wake of last week's ruling that Novell, and not SCO, controls the copyrights covering UNIX, Novell is reassuring Unix users that it has no plans to follow in SCO's footsteps. Given that the company is no longer in the business of selling UNIX, it has no reason to pursue any copyright claims.

According to a division of Home Media Magazine, Blu-ray high-definition movie discs outsold films on the rival HD-DVD format by 2-to-1 in the United States in the first half of 2007. 1.6 million Blu-ray discs were sold from January 1 to July 1, 2007, while 795,000 HD DVD discs were sold in that period.

...three Toshiba laptop battery cells using batteries made by Sony in December 2005 have caught on fire during the last 10 months, prompting the recall of the production run. The batteries are different to those involved in the infamous recall debacle of late last year, which became the biggest consumer recall in history. Of the 10,000 batteries produced for the Toshiba notebooks in question, it is estimated that around 5,100 units may be affected by the fault.
