Cray and Intel announced today they signed a multi-year agreement to advance high-performance computing (HPC) on Intel microprocessors while delivering broad new Intel and Cray technologies in future Cray server systems.

Certification for WiMAX equipment on the 2.3GHz spectrum could be delayed longer than expected and this will impact the country's rollout of wireless broadband services using the technology. The certification by the WiMAX Forum standards body based in the United States may only happen by end 2009 or even later, said Nokia Siemens Networks which manufactures such equipment.

Sony Corporation of America (SCA) announced today that it has signed a merger agreement with Gracenote. Sony will pay approximately US$260 million plus other contingent consideration. Gracenote specializes in embedded technology, enriched content, and data services for digital entertainment solutions within the Internet, consumer electronics, mobile, and automotive markets. Gracenote powers leading services including Apple iTunes, Yahoo! Music Jukebox and Winamp.

oftware giant Microsoft Corp. announced its fiscal third-quarter earnings Thursday, posting a quarterly profit that beat expectations thanks to strong sales of server software and Xbox 360 game consoles. Microsoft also offered fiscal 2009 guidance that topped Wall Street's estimates.
