Taiwan-based PC component specialists have moved to strengthen their presence in the networking, server, electric vehicle (EV) and other non-PC sectors amid a slowdown in shipment dynamics in the consumer electronics market, according to industry sources.

Demand for consumer electronics products such as notebooks in the end market has been weakening amid an easing of the pandemic-induced impacts, said the sources.

Besides, the previous surge in demand for notebooks, monitors and PC-related products supporting remote work and study has almost been fulfilled, capping the growth potential for notebooks, PCs and other consumer devices, added the sources.

As a result, most component makers are foraying into networking, cloud, EV, new energy and other sectors to maintain sales growth, said the sources.

Connector specialist ACES Group said its sales will remain stable in third-quarter 2022 as it is ramping up shipments for networking and automotive electronics applications. However, it acknowledged that its shipments to the notebook sectors are likely to be affected in the year.

Order visibility for networking and automotive applications is clear and their sales potential is also robust, according to sources at ACES.

Peer connector maker Alltop Technology said it is to lower the ratio of the notebook business below 30% of its total sales in 2022 while ramping up the correspondent ratios for high-power and high-frequency products targeting server and EV applications.

Connectivity solutions providers BizLink International and Sinbon Electronics have continued gearing up their shipments for industrial automation, automotive electronics, and other industrial applications, the sources indicated.

Other component suppliers including Linetek and CCP Contact Probes have been shipping more products for charging applications in the EV sector.
