DIGITIMES Research has found that smartphone application processor (AP) shipments to China-based brands in the first quarter of 2024 bucked the seasonal trend with a sequential increase of 9%, driven by stronger-than-expected sales for the Chinese handset brand vendors.
Abstract

Smartphone AP shipments to China-based smartphone brands are expected to pick up 9% sequentially in the first quarter thanks to the brand vendors' robust smartphone sales and their keen inventory replenishment.

Chinese smartphone APs will return to normal stock-building patterns in the second quarter of 2024.  The 618 shopping festival in June in the Chinese market, coupled with the end of the off-season in overseas markets, is expected to push up AP demand from Chinese vendors, with shipments estimated to rise 3.1% sequentially in the second quarter of 2024.

DIGITIMES Research estimates that in the second quarter of 2024, Qualcomm and Unisoc will be the only two with growing market shares among the four major AP suppliers for Chinese handsets.
