Apple's new M2-power MacBook Air is slated to be unveiled at WWDC scheduled from June 5–9 with DIGITIMES Research's senior analyst Jim Hsiao expecting the notebook's shipments to reach 2.5–3 million units in 2023.

Sources from the upstream supply chain pointed out that the new MacBook Air has already entered volume production, but only received minor upgrades in hardware. The product line is likely to get brand new machines or a major hardware enhancement in 2024 or 2025, the source said.

DIGITIMES Research's figures show global notebook demand was feeble in the first quarter of 2023 with the top-6 brands all witnessing sequential shipment decline in the quarter. The new MacBook Air is expected to feature a competitive price-performance ratio to help attract consumer demand.

In addition to the MacBook Air, Mac series desktops equipped with the M2 Max processor or the new M2 Ultra processor reportedly will also make their debuts at the conference, while an AR/MR device is also expected to become the spotlight of the event, the sources added.
