Taiwan Expo 2022 in Thailand, a physical exhibition in Bangkok during August 31-September 2 along with the corresponding online exhibition, is intended to help Taiwan-based enterprises market their products and services or seek investors and partners in the Southeast Asian country, according to co-organizers Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

There are 46 Taiwan-based enterprises participating in the physical exhibition and 189 in the online showcase.

The Thai government's national strategy of bio-circular-green (BCG) economy to drive economic and social development coincides with the Taiwanese government's "5+2" development policies, BOFT deputy director-general Lee Guann-jyh said, adding that BCG economy is estimated to take up about 21% of Thailand's GDP.

Trade between Taiwan and Thailand totaled US$12.9 billion in 2021, increasing 32% on year, and the total value of their trade during January-July 2022 grew 50% on year, Lee noted.

Taiwan's globally leading semiconductor industry can drive Thailand's development toward Industry 4.0, according to Taiwan's representative in Thailand Chuang Suo-hang.

Thailand is the largest automobile production base in Southeast Asia, and has set "30@30" policy that aims to have zero-emission vehicles (EVs) account for 30% of total car output by 2030, a bid to make Thailand the EV manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia, TAITRA chairman James Huang said, adding in this respect, Taiwan-based enterprises could be the best partners.

In addition to EVs, Taiwan-based enterprises have excellent technologies and products/services in smart medical care and smart manufacturing which can meet needs of upgrading medical facilities under the Thailand government's Medical Hub of Asia plan, Huang indicated.

The Thailand Board of Investment has offered incentives of up to 8-year tax exemption for production of EVs and smart electronics in Thailand.
