While first-tier notebook maker Quanta Computer saw its notebook shipments, including netbooks, increase 6.5% to 3.3 million units in September from 3.1 million units in August, the company's consolidated revenues in September increased only a slight increase of 0.3% on month to NT$61.53 billion (US$1.9 billion). Compared to September 2007, the company's revenues dropped 22.63% last month.

The company's combined consolidated revenues in the first nine months in 2008 were NT$590.67 billion, an increase of 13.4% compared to the same period last year.

In comparison, Wistron, which did not have netbook shipments contributing to its overall sales, achieved consolidated revenues of NT$49.8 billion in September, an increase of 44.5% on month and 67.8% on year, while the company's total consolidated revenues in the first nine months of this year reached NT$300.64 billion, an increase of 58.2% on year.

Inventec, with help from Toshiba notebook orders, saw its revenues increase 11.43% sequentially to NT$40.5 billion in September, up 75.8% on year. Its combined revenues in the first nine months in 2008 were NT$245.22 billion, an increase of 51.4% on year.

Although Inventec's gross margins have continued to drop, the company's low manufacturing quotes have helped it recover several lost notebook orders. However, since the costs in raw material and labor have impacted profits, the company's gross margins in the second half of this year are expected to remain below 5%.
