Web search company Google has agreed to build an undersea cable with five telecoms operators that will link the US to Japan, and provide the capacity to sustain a surge in Internet traffic between the continents.

Siemens plans to announce that it intends to eliminate up to 7,000 jobs, or 40 % of the workers in its troubled business telecommunications unit in Germany and Brazil, as it seeks a buyer for the business, a person with direct knowledge of the situation said.

An HTC spokesperson has revealed the company is working to deliver video acceleration drivers for some of its latest Windows Mobile devices. Some owners of HTC handsets, such as the TyTN II, have been vocal in their disappointment that the performance of these devices doesn't live it to that expected based on the hardware inside. These users have banded together to raise awareness of the issue and even proposed the filing of a class action suit in attempts to pressure the company into providing better driver support.
