The University of Bath is to head an international consortium aiming to prepare OLEDs for lighting and other consumer applications. The £850,000 project, dubbed Modecom, will last until October 2009.

Canon plans to boost production capacity at its Fuji factory, Yamanashi Prefecture, by 80% over the next three years to get ready to make equipment for display panels based on SED technology, according to the Nikkei Business Daily. A fourth building at the Canon subsidiary's Fuji facility for cutting and welding steel and aluminum parts will be online by August; cleanroom and other facility expansions will bring the total investment to about 2 billion yen (US $16.9 million).
