Taiwan-based Insyde Software, a developer of BIOS (basic input/output system) and UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface) firmware, has stepped into development of BIOS firmware for use in servers and e-book readers, according to company chairman Jeremy Wang.

While firmware products for use in notebooks account for 90% of Insyde's total revenues currently, orders for the product line will not grow significantly in 2010 and this is the main reason for Insyde to develop firmware for other applications, Wang said.

Insyde is working with Dell to develop BIOS firmware for adoption in the vendor's servers in the fourth quarter of 2009, industry sources said. Insyde also provided BIOS firmware for use in Android netbooks launched by Acer in 2009 and is developing BIOS firmware for Google Chrome operating system.

Insyde recorded revenues of NT$877 million (US$26.7 million), net profit of NT$226 million and net EPS of NT$6.85 in 2009, and will distribute a dividend per share of NT$5 in cash and NT$1 in stock, according to the company.
