On April 5, South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix Inc. expressed condolences to Taiwan over the April 3 deadly earthquake that hit the east coast of the island nation this week.
SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung issued a condolence statement to extend the company's wishes for the health and safety of those affected by the earthquake on April 3 and promised to assist the country recover from the damage as quickly as possible.
"In Taiwan, there are partners and members who work with SK Hynix in various fields related to semiconductors, as well as their families. We hope that this incident will be resolved as soon as possible and that everyone will be able to resume their daily lives," said Kwak in his statement.
Yonhap News Agency said that Taiwan and South Korea are in a complementary relationship in the global semiconductor supply chain. It cited the Korea International Trade Association data that South Korea exported US$3 billion of memory chips to Taiwan in 2023.
