Samsung Display will invest US$3 billion to expand OLED display module facilities in Vietnam, according to a report from Korea-based Money Today.
The move will give the company a more vertically integrated supply chain in Vietnam where its parent company Samsung Electronics currently is pursuing smartphone manufacturing in order to keep costs down as price competition intensifies in the market.
Samsung Display's investment has reportedly already received approval from the Vietnam government, the report added.
Meanwhile, other Korea media reports recently said that Samsung and LG Display are bumping up OLED panel production efforts to keep a competitive edge in the market due to rising LCD capacity in China.
