Press release 0

The 2013 Taiwan International Smart Green City Summit, an event from the Taiwan International Smart Green City Expo hosted by Taiwan's Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), will commence on November 1, 2013 at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC), Room 201. The latest information from this exciting market will be disclosed at the summit and any guests at the Expo with interest in smart city topics are welcome to participate in the forum.

Addressing important issues such as the environmental impact brought on by rapid global urbanization, the summit has three special sessions planned: Global Strategy; Smart Innovations, Low Carbon, Green Economy; and Total Solutions. Experts and specialists from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and the US have been invited to discuss how to resolve problems caused by massive urbanization - namely a lack of public facilities, increasing environment pollution and a shortage of parks and green spaces - through the implementation of smart green city solutions, such as smart Internet of Things (IoT), smart energy and smart architecture.

To assist more Taiwan enterprises to understand the latest developments in smart green cities, the organizer has specially invited Choose New Jersey's president and CEO Tracye McDaniel to provide an opening keynote to share her experiences into the new look of smart green cities, while several other experts in related fields will share the most up to date global smart green city information.

During the Global Strategy session, Andrew Leung, president of the Hong Kong-based Asian Institute of Intelligent Buildings, will share development trends concerning achieving sustainable environments and economies for smart cities; Stanley Yip, ARUP director of planning and development, will speak about the outlook of smart eco-cities in the Greater China region as it concerns city planning and design and economic research of land use; and Damian Tang, president of Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects Kok Fei, will share his thoughts on the creation of smart green cities under the premise of environmental and economic sustainability.

During the Smart Innovations, Low Carbon, Green Economy session, Koichi Moto, executive managing officer, director of Mori Building Co., Ltd; and Arding Hsu, senior vice president of Siemens Limited China/head of Siemens Corporate Technology (CT) in China, will share their ideas for sustainable urban management in areas including architecture and smart management.

For the Total Solutions session, K.C. Liu, CEO of Advantech Co., Ltd; Allen Liou, manager of Solution Design, IBM Taiwan; and Mei-Chen Lin, vice president of Schneider Electric Taiwan Co., Ltd will share their findings on realizing smart green cities by taking advantage of Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing business opportunities, smart energy and smart architecture.

According to figures from international research firm IDC, a green city supporting a population of one million would drive US$600 million worth of information- and communication-related business opportunities, and Nikkei BP Cleantech Institute pointed out that the smart green city market will accumulate JPY1,000 trillion worth of market value by 2030. If Taiwan is able to leverage its 30-years of experience in the ICT industry, combined with its advantages in the research of solar power systems, the country is expected to dominate in the enormous smart green city market and allow Taiwan's IT industry to climb to new heights.

To brainstorm ideas for developing more diversified, innovative and market-competitive smart green city solutions, the organizers have also prepared two in-depth panel discussions, the Global Urban Planning Roundtable and Smart City Summit. We humbly invite all guests to join the discussion and together we can participate in the development of smart green cities and begin to realize the potential of new business opportunities in the market.
