Taiwan-, Japan-based vendors competitive with South Korea-based ones in global high-end TV market, say Taiwan makers

While Samsung Electronics has lowered 55-inch OLED TVs by 34% from KRW15 million (US$12,700) to KRW9.9 million, Taiwan- and Japan-based LCD TV vendors are able to hold ground in the global high-end TV market by launching Ultra HD TVs, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

OLED TVs have the advantages of high color saturation, high contrast, low power consumption and slimness in comparison with LCD TVs, but production costs are higher and yield rates are lower, the sources indicated. Therefore, Ultra HD TVs are still competitive with OLED TVs in price.

Prices for Ultra HD TV panels are expected to remain at 1.7-2 times those for Full HD TV panels in the fourth quarter, the sources indicated.
