Motherboard makers mull price hikes, says paper

Taiwan-based motherboard makers are considering hiking their product prices by 3-5% in March, with industry sources indicating that Asustek Computer is likely to lead fellow companies to implement planned hikes, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

In response, Asustek said that it has not yet finalized plans for possible hikes, since retail channels have been very sensitive to price movement and that the price hikes may result in a loss of market share to rivals, according to the paper.

However, Asustek also noted that motherboard makers are also set to face potential hikes in production costs due to ever rising labor costs in China, and PCB suppliers are also likely to raise their quotes to reflect persistent high copper prices.
