The Taiwan government-sponsored Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) on March 25 announced its cooperation with PayPal, which will provide international payment service for members of its B2B e-commerce portal Taiwantrade.
TAITRA said it started operating Taiwantrade in 2002 to help Taiwan-based small- and medium-size enterprises seek export opportunities, and overseas buyers find suppliers in Taiwan. Taiwantarde has a membership of more than 100,000 local suppliers and about 1.5 million foreign buyers currently, TAITRA said.
The introduction of eBay's PayPal is to facilitate small-value sales transactions between Taiwan-based sellers and overseas buyers through a convenient and secure online payment system, TAITRA said
PayPal also plans to seek cooperation with other operators of e-commerce services in Taiwan, according to general manger Kerry Wong for PayPal Hong Kong and Taiwan.
