Taiwan' unemployment rate continued to drop sequentially in November for the fifth consecutive month, falling 0.1 percentage point to 5.86%, according to statistics released by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS). But compared to the same month last year, the November figure - which means 645,000 people were jobless - represents an increase of 1.22 percentage points.
Taiwan's population aged 15 and over stood at 18.940 million in November, consisting of 11.014 million for labor force and 7.926 million for non-labor force with a labor participation rate of 58.15%, DGBAS indicated.
In November, Taiwan's unemployment rate was lower than the 10.0% for the US, 8.5% for Canada, 7.9% for UK and 7.6% for Germany but higher than the 5.1% for Japan and Hong Kong each, 3.5% for South Korea and 3.4% for Singapore, DGBAS said.
