IC designer Sonix Technology's order visibility of notebook webcam chips has extended to May, having recently added Samsung Electronics to its client list and received more orders from Acer, according to market sources. Sonix is expected to expand its market share of notebook webcam products this year, the sources added.

Sonix currently owns 60% share in the global notebook webcam market, and now over 50% of Acer notebooks adopt Sonix webcam solutions after the vendor recently shifted orders to Sonix from the designer's rivals, indicated the sources.

Sonix expects 50% revene growth for the second quarter despite market observers' concern that growth momentum in the market may weaken in May and June.

In terms of other product lines, the company estimates shipments of optical identification (OID) solutions to increase in the second quarter, wireless solutions to see significant growth in the second half of this year, and microcontroller unit (MCU) shipments to top one million units for 2009.
