Nokia Siemens Networks has won an open bid to supply IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) networking equipment to Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) with the deal worth a total of NT$1.02 billion (US$31.3 million), according sources at CHT.

The winning bid accounted for only 68% of CHT's original budget of NT$1.5 billion for its IMS project to be implemented in 2007, the sources noted.

CHT's IMS project, however, still is subject to approval from Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC), and Nokia Siemens is obliged to complete the IMS project within 180 days after receiving the notification of NCC approval, the sources indicated.

Including the 2007 IMS project, CHT plans to complete it entire IMS networks within five years with a total budget of NT$9 billion, said the sources.
