Investigation on Wei-Jen Lo's move to Intel

Wei-Jen Lo, the former SVP for TSMC, retired in July 2025. Following his move to Intel in October, Taiwanese prosecutors launched a national security probe into whether he leaked sensitive TSMC commercial secrets. Intel, in response, has backed Lo and its decision to hire him.

Veteran TSMC executive Wei-Jen Lo's jump to Intel has ignited a national security firestorm as Taiwan probes allegations he took confidential data on cutting-edge 2nm and A16 processes. TSMC's internal investigation and Taiwan's legal action are in motion, raising industry concerns about the risks associated with losing key personnel.

In a rare direct response, Intel and CEO Lip-Bu Tan have defended the hiring of Lo, believing that the allegations "have no merit."
