Compal December notebook shipments down, says paper

Compal Electronics has estimated its December 2007 notebook shipments at 1.8-1.9 million units, a drop of 19.1%-23.4% on month although ASPs (average selling prices) in the month were higher than those in the previous month. The company estimates revenues in December were around NT$31.7-33.5 billion (US$977.28-1032.77 million), according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report citing company sources.

Due to the sub-prime mortgage issues, downstream channel vendors were more conservative over their inventory and this affected the company's December shipments, while the battery shortages also contributed some of the impact, noted the paper, adding that the company is still optimistic towards the worldwide notebook market for 2008.
