Nintendo has increased its global sales forecast for the Nintendo Switch 2 to 19 million units for fiscal 2025, marking a significant rise from its initial target of 15 million units. The revised projection, announced on November 4, accompanies upgraded revenue and profit expectations for the period spanning April 2025 to March 2026.
Reports from Bloomberg and Nikkei indicate that cumulative Switch 2 sales surpassed 10 million units by the end of September 2025, achieved within roughly four months after the console's launch. This rapid uptake has demonstrated sustained consumer interest beyond initial market entry.
During the second quarter of fiscal 2025, from July to September, the Switch 2 sold 4.54 million units, maintaining the strong sales pace established in the first quarter. Alongside the increased hardware sales target from 15 million to 19 million units, Nintendo also raised its software sales forecast from 45 million to 48 million copies.
This surge in Switch 2 performance has prompted Nintendo to revise its full-year financial outlook upward. The company now anticipates revenue growth of 93% year-over-year, reaching JPY2.25 trillion (approx. US$146 billion). This figure represents the first time Nintendo has surpassed the ¥2 trillion threshold and sets a new record for annual revenue. Net profit is expected to increase 26% to ¥350 billion, reflecting a ¥50 billion boost compared to earlier estimates.
Despite initial market skepticism about whether the Switch 2 would sufficiently differentiate itself from the original Switch series, early sales data suggest strong consumer demand. Industry analysts are now focused on the upcoming year-end shopping season to assess whether hardware and software sales will continue to follow this positive trajectory.
