Apple CEO Tim Cook met with China's Minister of Commerce Wentao Wang on October 16, 2025, once again emphasizing that Apple will continue to deepen its presence in the Chinese market.

According to a statement released by China's Ministry of Commerce, Wang and Cook discussed China-US economic and trade relations as well as Apple's operations in China.

In the same press release, the Ministry of Commerce criticized the US for introducing a series of intensive restrictive measures against China following the Madrid talks, undermining the atmosphere for bilateral economic and trade discussions. The ministry called on the US to engage in professional communication and to create a stable and predictable business environment for companies from both countries.

Cook also met with China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Lecheng Li, assuring that Apple will raise the level of cooperation with Chinese companies after the ministry emphasized the importance of intelligent industrial development.

Navigating diplomatic complexities

Newly appointed Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan also visited China on October 14, 2025, and met with suppliers such as AAC Technologies and Lens Technology.

During previous visits to China, public attention has often focused on changes in China's supply chain. However, as China-US trade tensions shift once again, how business leaders like Cook navigate between the two governments has become a focal point.

US President Donald Trump recently announced that beginning November 1, 2025, a 100% tariff will be imposed on Chinese goods. Trump has continued urging companies to invest in the US, and Apple has pledged to invest US$600 billion in the country over the next four years. Additionally, Apple announced a CNY1 billion (US$140.4 million) new energy fund and a donation to National Tsing Hua University in Beijing.
