DIGITIMES observes that Nintendo's new generation console, the Switch 2, has quickly become the fastest-selling console in the company's history since its global launch on June 5, 2025. Leveraging the console's upgraded performance for high-resolution games, Nintendo has also strengthened its online services to boost recurring revenue.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has partnered with Asustek to release the ROG Xbox Ally, entering the portable gaming console market. Sony Japan, despite actively developing cloud gaming, believes it is not yet the right time to fully transition to a cloud-based era.
The Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units within just four days of its launch, setting a new sales record for Nintendo and surpassing the PlayStation 4's first-week sales in the US. However, insufficient supply prevented it from meeting the overwhelming market demand, leading to scalping issues even before its official release. Nintendo subsequently negotiated directly with auction platforms to remove unauthorized listings, highlighting the immense popularity of the Switch 2.
