Uber has announced its first fleet acquisition in Taiwan by purchasing long-time partner Crown Taxi. The ride-hailing giant plans to introduce an integrated operating model combining the Uber platform with the fleet. The acquisition amount was not disclosed, and the deal is still pending regulatory approvals.
Enhancing driver experience and passenger access
Uber stated that the acquisition will create a smoother working experience for Crown Taxi drivers. It will also provide more passengers, particularly those in areas with fewer transportation options, better access to Uber's services, such as ride-hailing for pregnant and elderly riders.
Crown Taxi was established in 2011 and has been working with Uber by dispatching drivers through its platform since 2017. Once regulatory authorities complete the review process for the acquisition, Uber will work closely with Crown Taxi's management team and drivers to ensure a smooth integration and transfer process. Currently, all major ride-hailing apps in Taiwan use this type of integrated operating model.
Strategic commitment to Taiwan market
Margarita Peker, general manager of Uber in Taiwan, stated that Uber has been working with Taiwan's taxi industry for more than a decade. The acquisition of Crown Taxi demonstrates Uber's commitment to continued investment in Taiwan. Uber will streamline the process for Crown Taxi's drivers to join the Uber platform, and looks forward to working more closely with Taiwan's government.
Uber currently partners with numerous individual taxis, taxi fleets, and rental car companies in Taiwan. Its service area covers 16 cities, including Yilan, Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County and city, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Chiayi County and City, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung.
