On July 27, at the Stanford Memorial Auditorium, Professor Mau-Chung Chang, co-founder of Kneron, a provider of edge AI solutions, was awarded the inaugural 2024 Asian American Pioneer Medal for his outstanding contributions to technology.
The inaugural Asian American Pioneer Medal Symposium and Award Ceremony recognized the transformative contributions of Asian American pioneers and brought together outstanding thought leaders in the fields of energy, artificial intelligence, life sciences, and leadership.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Nobel Laureates Steven Chu and Randy Schekman, as well as Turing Award winner Raj Reddy. Former Stanford University President and Turing Award winner John Hennessy and distinguished industry leader Eric Yuan engaged in a fireside chat, providing a unique platform for knowledge exchange and inspiration. Winners of the "Youth Science Ambassador" competition were also honored at the symposium.
World-renowned Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang and former President and CEO of Rockwell Scientific Inc., Derek Cheung, presented the medal to Professor Mau-Chung Chang during the ceremony. The organizers stated, "This inaugural award ceremony honors Asian American pioneers who have made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of mobile technology, profoundly changing our daily lives."
This honor not only recognizes Professor Chang's achievements but also acknowledges Kneron's efforts in driving mobile technology innovation and transforming our daily lives. As a distinguished scientist and entrepreneur, Professor Chang's work has profoundly influenced the development trajectory of modern communication technology.
As a co-founder of Kneron, Professor Mau-Chung Chang is also the Chair and Distinguished Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering at UCLA. He has served as the rotating Chair of the Science Committee of the Future Science Prize in 2021, President of National Chiao Tung University, Deputy Director and Department Manager of the High-Speed Electronics Laboratory at Rockwell International Science Center in Thousand Oaks, California, and Director of the High-Speed Electronics Laboratory at UCLA.
At the award ceremony, attendees reflected on Professor Chang's career and how his innovations have pushed the boundaries of mobile technology, making complex technology more accessible and widespread.
Kneron, as part of Professor Chang's career, has also achieved significant accomplishments in the fields of smart hardware and edge AI. These achievements include recognition through the 2023 IEEE CTSoc and the 2023 IEEE/RSE James Clerk Maxwell Medal.
