China and India have both contributed to the initial production volumes of the iPhone 15 series but the share from China is still larger than that from India with the latter still having room for growth. iPhones made in India are primarily for satisfying local demand and neighboring markets, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Apple introduced the iPhone 15 series against a backdrop of global economic uncertainties and a rumored ban on iPhones in Chinese government agencies. India is gaining prominence as it joins the ranks of countries producing iPhones.

Sources told DITIMES that the all-new iPhone 15 is currently in production at Indian facilities, prioritizing meeting local demands. India has been in the first wave of Apple's iPhone release since the iPhone 13 and such is staying the same for the iPhone 15 series.

The delivery schedule gap between iPhones produced in Chinese and Indian facilities has been shrinking during the past several years as Apple's focus on the Indian market intensifies and a severe production disruption in Foxconn's Zhengzhou facilities in 2022 had led to an urgent need for supply chain diversification.

Sources told DIGITIMES that before the iPhone 14 series, only a small portion of iPhones were assembled in India, primarily older generation products, with a lag of over six months. However, this gap has significantly narrowed in 2022.
