More than 160,000 new energy cars, mainly electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), were sold in Europe in September 2020, growing over 15% on month, according to industry sources.
Germany ranked first among European countries with sales of about 40,000 new energy cars, followed by the UK (34,000 units), France (17,000 units), Sweden and the Netherlands (over 10,000 units each), the sources said.
The sales number of EVs was about the same to that of PHEVs in Germany and the UK, while the former was larger than the latter in other countries except Sweden, the sources noted.
January-September 2020 new energy car sales in Europe exceeded those in China, mainly due to increased subsidization for purchases of new energy cars and strict regulations on carbon emissions in Europe, the sources indicated.
