LED packaging service provider Everlight Electronics expects the revenue proportion for automotive-use LED devices, including taillights, headlights, interior lights and sensors, to rise from 7-8% in 2019 to above 10% in 2020, according to company chairman Robert Yeh.
Everlight has become an OEM partner in the supply chain for European, Japanese, South Korean and Chinese carmakers, Yeh said. As technical barriers for OEM supply are very high, prices are significantly higher than those for after-market sales, Yeh noted.
Everlight has cooperated with China-based Leyard Optoelectronic to develop fine-pitch LED displays for 7-8 years and will develop mini LED models with pitches of 0.3-0.6mm in 2020, Yeh indicated.
Mini LED is expected to take up over 10% of overall backlighting sales revenues in 2020 along with growing adoption of mini LED backlighting by LCD gaming monitors, LCD TVs and automotive displays, he said.
Everlight has reported consolidated revenues of NT$1.776 billion (US$59 million) for December, decreasing 6.52% sequentially but increasing 10.38% on year; those of NT$5.443 billion for fourth-quarter 2019 grew 5.50% sequentially but dropped 3.1% on year; and those of NT$20.946 billion for 2019 slipped 13.03% on year.
