AcBel Polytech will expand production capacities in Taiwan and the Philippines as it extends business from producing power supplies to providing energy management solutions, according to the company at an August 7 investor conference.

AcBel said it will add factory buildings to its production base in northern Taiwan and upgrade R&D for high-end products with planned investment of NT$2.5 billion (US$79.4 million), with the new factory buildings to be installed with smart manufacturing equipment. Construction of the new factory buildings will begin in October 2019 and completion is scheduled for fourth-quarter 2021, AcBel noted.

AcBel will also expand its prodcution capacity in the Philippines. After the expansions, the factories in Taiwan and the Philippines will account for over 20% and 25-30%, respectively, of AcBel's total production capacity, and the company plans to reduce the capacity proportion for its three factories in China to below 50% eventually.

Since third-quarter 2018, AcBel has seen significant shipment growth for consumer power supplies used in smart home and IoT devices, gaming PCs and notebooks, surveillance systems, as well as industrial power supplies for edge computing, cloud computing data centers, AI and big data analysis.

AcBel in early 2019 won an open bid to supply 77,000 smart power meters for Taiwan Power Company, and has cooperated with electric scooter vendors to develop energy management systems used in battery swap stations, and with electric vehicle vendors to develop power supplies, the company indicated.

AcBel said it has supplied power adaptors and converters and other electric devices for PV power stations in Taiwan and abroad with total installation capacity of over 100MWp. AcBel has set up overseas R&D centers for developing high-wattage bi-directional inverters and smart energy management systems.

AcBel has reported consolidated revenues of NT$1.72 billion for July, decreasing 0.11% sequentially but increasing 6.76% on year, and those of NT$12.126 billion for January-July grew 19.63% on year.
