Power supply maker AcBel Polytech has reported net profit of NT$1.005 billion (US$32.52 million) for 2018, buoyed by a non-operating income of NT$1.721 billion.

Its 2018 net EPS reached NT$1.95.

Of the 2018 sales revenues from power supplies, 70% came from consumer models for use in smart home devices, gaming LCD monitors and notebooks, IoT devices and surveillance systems, while industrial ones for use in servers accounted for 30%, AcBel noted, adding it aims at a ratio of 60:40 for the consumer and industrial segments in 2019.

In 2019, industrial power supplies for servers at data centers and 5G base stations are expected to drive shipment growth, and AcBel is making efforts to develop high-efficiency, high-wattage, high-density and low-cost power supply models, it noted.

AcBel has also diversified into making smart power meters and constructing smart power grids in Taiwan and Southeast Asia. It is developing new power supplies through cooperation with international electric vehicle makers, developing high-wattage PV inverters and smart energy management systems for use in PV power-generating facilities in Taiwan, and investing in PV power generation projects in Taiwan.

To cope with possible impact from US-China trade tensions, AcBel said it will expand production capacities at a factory in Taiwan and another in the Philippines in 2019. After the capacity expansion, the revenue proportion for the Taiwan factory is expected to rise from 15% at present to 17-18% and that for the factory in the Philippines from nearly 20% to 25-30%, with the remaining coming from two factories in China, AcBel indicated.

AcBel's board of directors has decided to distribute a cash dividend per share of NT$1.00 for 2018 and sell its factory in Dongguang, southern China, with land area of 106,003 square meters and total building floor area of 56,555 square meters at CNY636 million (US$94.9 million) and rent it back for 3-5 years. AcBel estimates capital gain of CNY262 million from the factory sale.

AcBel has reported consolidated revenues of NT$1.131 billion for February, declining 43.61% on month but rising 28.41% on year, and those of NT$3.136 billion for January-February, growing 36.56% on year.
