Taiwan-based metal component maker Waffer Technology's new plants in Maanshan, China, began operation on October 26 and are mainly used for manufacturing light metal applications for the automotive industry.

Waffer chairman Francis Tsai pointed out that the new plants in Maanshan will help reduce the company's costs from raw material supply as well as acquisitions of manpower and land. Waffer has also installed automated production lines at the new plants.

Waffer is planning to invest a total of CNY600 million (US$86.68 million) over five years to complete the new manufacturing site. So far, Waffer has spent US$16.8 million since the site began constructing in March 2018. After the facility is completed, it will be able to supply two million light metal-alloy products a month to clients and generate sales of CNY800 million a year.

Waffer has also obtained orders from a first-tier automobile product supplier and will begin delivering shipments in 2020.
