Advantech has announced it will invest JPY1.84 billion (US$16.5 million) to acquire a total of 80% shareholding in Japan-based embedded PC maker Omron Nohgata, a subsidiary of Japan-based Omron. Advantech will own a 50% stake with the remaining taken by Advantech's branch office in Japan.
Advantech pointed out that Omron Nohgata's operation team will remain unaffected, but will be integrated with Advantech's Embedded-IoT business group to conduct product development and business planning.
Via the acquisition, Advantech is looking to accelerate its penetration into Japan's embedded system market as well as strengthen its local services. It will also allow the Taiwan-based IPC maker to tighten its partnership with Omron over IoT platform development.
Omron Nohgata's business focuses are robots, factory automation, machine tools and medical care products development and after the acquisition, it will be renamed as Advantech Nohgata.
Currently, Japan, with advanced manufacturing industry and stable demand for embedded systems and motherboard, is a major market where Advantech has been promoting its IoT budiness.
