FocalTech Systems has filed a lawsuit with the Taiwan Intellectual Property Court against fellow LCD driver IC company Novatek Microelectronics, alleging Novatek's integrated driver and controller chip code-named NT36672A has infringed its patent.
FocalTech said it has the court to ban sale of the allegedly infringing product.
In response, Novatek said it had not been notified about the complaint and would not comment on the news.
FocalTech was the first Taiwan-based company capable of volume producing TDDI solutions for smartphone panels. Novatek along with Himax Technologies stepped into the field just this year.
According to Digitimes Research, TDDI chip shipments are set to hit the five million mark worldwide in 2018.
